Claire Ashley's work investigates inflatables as painting, sculpture, installation and performance costume. These works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries, museums, and site-specific installations, performances and collaborations.
Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, Ashley is now Chicago based, and teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Department of Contemporary Practices, and the Department of Painting and Drawing. Her work has been shown at venues such as Art Basel (Kassel, Germany), The Tetley Center for Contemporary Art (Leeds, England), 808 Gallery at Boston University, The Chicago Cultural Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, Ill.), The Highland Institute for Contemporary Art (Inverness, Scotland), and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (Bentonville, AR.).
I think it’s important to note that the exhibit appeals to all learning styles. The programming, at the moment, will emphasize literacy through general academic vocabulary and domain specific words, as well as the gifted and talented program and the art departments at each school.
